Farmers Markets
LA has a ton of farmers markets throughout the week and weekend. The LA Times as put together a comprehensive list of farmers markets in the area.
Huntington Library and Botanical Garden
My favorite place to take flower photos is located just a few minutes away in San Marino. Admission is $15 ($10 for students) and it is well worth it to see the thousands of desert flowers alone, not to mention the amazing works of art in the museum. You can see some of my flower photos from the Huntington or check out their website for more information.
Los Angeles Conservancy
Put on your walking shoes and discover the treasures of Downtown via an LA Conservancy walking tour. The LA Conservancy offers a few different guided walking tours here in downtown such as: Little Tokyo, LA's Evolving Skyline, Art Deco, Union Station, Broadway Theaters, USC, The Biltmore Hotel, and The Historic Core. We took the LA Skyline tour and enjoyed an impressive presentation given by our guide. We often run into tours on Saturday mornings. Reservations must be made in advance and non-members are always welcome!
Los Angeles Zoo
We love the zoo and try and go there as often as possible. You can check out their website or take a look at some of the photos we've taken of the animals.
Lotus Festival
The lotus festival takes place every year in Echo Park and is always a fun event to attend. You can check out our pictures and my article from last year or read up about it on the LA Parks website.
MTA Light Rail and Union Station
The MTA rail serves as magical bridge out of downtown. You can get to many fabulous LA spots without the not-so-fabulous LA gridlock. The station closest to us is Pershing Square. From here, you can go to Downtown Long Beach (Blue line), Chinatown/Pasadena (Yellow Line), or Hollywood (Red Line).
Visiting Union Station is well worth a visit and is the gateway between downtown and Chinatown! There is something to be said about it's lovely murals, romantic art decor, elements of Spanish revival, and beautiful garden.
